Following recent administrative restructuring, the province has gained renewed momentum to build a more integrated, high-quality tourism ecosystem that leverages its unique cultural, spiritual, and ecological assets.

Oriented Development Based on Regional Strengths

According to Mr. Dang Tuan Hung, Head of the Tourism Management Division under the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Phu Tho is now mapping out key tourism product chains that align with the functions and characteristics of each region. These chains are designed to foster stronger regional linkages, enhance visitor experiences, and reflect the province’s distinct identity as the spiritual cradle of the Vietnamese people.

Spiritual-Cultural Tourism: The Flagship Product

Phu Tho’s standout tourism strength lies in spiritual and cultural heritage, with iconic routes connecting destinations tied to legendary Vietnamese figures and folk beliefs. Notable chains include:

Hung Kings Temple – Ba Vi – Thanh Thuy – Hoa Binh, highlighting the legends of Son Tinh – Thuy Tinh, Saint Tan Vien, and Mother Goddess worship.

Hung Kings Temple – Tam Dao – Soc Son, associated with Prince Lang Lieu, Mother Goddess Tay Thien, and Saint Giong.

Hung Kings Temple – Au Co Mother Temple – Lao Cai, telling the tale of Lac Long Quan and Au Co, founders of the Vietnamese nation.

These tourism routes immerse visitors in stories of origin, sacred landscapes, and cultural rituals passed down through generations.

Cultural Immersion and Community-Based Experiences

The province is also investing in community-based tourism that brings visitors closer to the daily lives and heritage of local ethnic communities. In villages such as Lac (Mai Ha Commune), Pa Co, Cha Day, Sung (Cao Son Commune), and Chien Hamlet (Van Son Commune), tourists can explore the traditions of the Muong, Thai, Dao, Tay, and Mong peoples through their architecture, cuisine, music, handicrafts, and festivals.

This type of tourism extends across areas like Hoa Binh Lake, Xuan Son National Park, Long Coc tea hills, and traditional villages in My Lung, Trung Son, Bach Hac, and Hung Lo.

Eco-Wellness and Nature-Based Retreats

Phu Tho is further developing eco-wellness tourism, focusing on hot mineral springs in Thanh Thuy, Kim Boi, and Dai Lai, enhanced by high-end spa, health, and nature therapy services. These offerings are increasingly attractive to travelers seeking relaxation and rejuvenation in natural surroundings.

In parallel, the province is expanding eco-tourism and adventure tourism, incorporating activities such as trekking, cycling, mountain climbing, and boating in areas like Xuan Son National Park, Ao Chau, Ao Gioi – Suoi Tien, Tam Dao, Hoa Binh Lake, and Mai Chau.

MICE and Cultural-Educational Tourism

Phu Tho’s growing infrastructure also supports MICE tourism (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions). Urban centers are being equipped with modern hotels, event venues, and premium services to attract national and international conferences.

In addition, the province promotes cultural-educational tours combining visits to key historical sites such as the Hung Kings Temple, Muong Cultural Museum, and Vietnamese Scientists Heritage Park with hands-on experiences in intangible heritage, craft villages, agriculture, and traditional folk games.

Steady Growth and Strong Visitor Interest

In the first half of 2025, Phu Tho recorded significant tourism growth, with millions of visits and an estimated 2.9 million overnight stays translating to an 11% year-on-year revenue increase. These figures reflect the success of strategic planning and the rising appeal of diversified tourism products.

Strengthening Promotion and Digital Engagement

To support this growth, the province is actively enhancing its tourism promotion efforts. Digital tools such as the Smart Tourism Portal, Phu Tho Tourism website, and official social media channels (Fanpage, Zalo) are being used to distribute accurate, up-to-date information and showcase the province’s tourism advantages to a wider audience.

Through these integrated efforts, Phu Tho aims to firmly establish itself not only as a spiritual heartland of the Vietnamese people, but also as a dynamic tourism destination in the national and regional landscape.

Source: Phu Tho Newspaper – en.baophutho.vn – Aug 11, 2025

In the evolving socio-economic landscape, Phu Tho Province widely regarded as the Ancestral Land of Vietnam is positioning tourism as a central driver of sustainable development.
