Pleiku Airport to reopen from September 1
Pleiku Airport in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai will be reopened from 12am on September 1 as stipulated in Decision No. 3106 of the Ministry of Transport.
Earlier, flights to and from Pleiku Airport were halted from March 15, 2015 as the airport’s major facilities were being upgraded to be capable of receiving larger aircrafts.
The two-phase upgrade project began last September at a cost of VND945 billion (US$43.3 million). In its second phase, the airport was closed temporarily for over six months due to construction works on its runway.
The runway was enlarged from 36 metres in width to 45 metres and from 1,830 metres in length to 2,400 metres in order to accommodate A321, Boeing 737 and other aircrafts of the same size.
In addition, the terminal was renovated to serve up to 600 passengers during peak time.
At present, only the national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines is using the airport, with flights arriving from Ha Noi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City.
In the future, two low-cost airlines VietJet Air and Jetstar Pacific will also operate services to and from the airport.
