Welcome to Vietnam! Upon arrival at Tan Son Nhat Airport, meet your local guide and transfer to your hotel. In the evening, enjoy a delicious welcome dinner featuring authentic Vietnamese cuisine, followed by a trip briefing to get you ready for the adventure ahead.
Overnight in Saigon.
Start your day with a deep dive into the rich history and vibrant culture of Saigon, officially known as Ho Chi Minh City. The journey begins at the Reunification Palace, a symbol of the end of the Vietnam War, where visitors can explore the preserved war rooms, secret tunnels, and command bunkers that once played a central role in the country's history. A short walk away stands the Notre Dame Cathedral, an architectural gem built by the French in the late 1800s, boasting striking red bricks and twin bell towers. Opposite the cathedral lies the Central Post Office, designed by Gustave Eiffel, featuring a grand arched ceiling, antique maps, and classic French colonial charm.
The tour continues with a visit to the Jade Emperor Pagoda, a spiritual haven where worshippers light incense and pray to deities in a serene, mystical atmosphere. Conclude the city exploration at Ben Thanh Market, a bustling hub where you can soak up the local energy, browse countless stalls of souvenirs, handicrafts, fresh produce, and perhaps enjoy a cup of Vietnamese iced coffee or a hot bowl of pho.
After lunch at a local restaurant, venture out of the city to the legendary Cu Chi Tunnels, an immense underground network that played a crucial role during the Vietnam War. Here, you’ll have a chance to crawl through narrow passages once used by Viet Cong soldiers, visit hidden trapdoors, command centers, and field kitchens, and gain firsthand insight into the ingenuity and endurance of the Vietnamese fighters. You may also sample boiled cassava, the simple yet vital wartime food. Return to Saigon in the late afternoon.
Overnight in Saigon.
Leave the hustle and bustle of Saigon behind as you journey into the heart of the Mekong Delta, where life flows along the rivers. Around 7:30 AM, your guide will pick you up from your hotel and begin the scenic drive to Cai Be, passing through lush countryside landscapes dotted with endless stretches of emerald-green rice paddies.
Upon arrival in Cai Be, board a traditional wooden boat to explore the vibrant waterways of the Mekong. The cruise takes you along tranquil canals lined with water coconut trees and stilt houses, offering a glimpse into the peaceful lifestyle of delta dwellers. Visit a floating market where local traders exchange goods right from their boats, just as they have for generations. Step ashore to visit a local orchard where you can sample fresh tropical fruits like dragon fruit, mangoes, and jackfruit, freshly picked from the trees.
Continue your journey to a village well-known for its traditional handicrafts. Watch local artisans create coconut candy, puffed rice, rice paper, and rice wine—delicious samples included! Enjoy a relaxing break at the historic Ba Kiet Ancient House, a beautifully preserved 19th-century home set in a lush garden. Here, savor a traditional Mekong-style lunch surrounded by serenity and heritage.
After lunch, travel onward to Can Tho, the capital of the Mekong Delta, arriving in the late afternoon. Check in at your hotel and enjoy a restful evening at your leisure.
Overnight in Can Tho.
Rise early this morning for a memorable boat trip to the Cai Rang Floating Market—one of the largest and most bustling floating markets in the Mekong Delta. As the sun rises, the river comes alive with wooden boats laden with colorful fruits, vegetables, and local products, all being traded in a lively dance on water. Witness vendors using long poles to hang their goods like a menu in the air, and experience firsthand how this unique river market still thrives as a vital hub of local commerce.
After the market, cruise through narrow waterways fringed by mangroves and river life, then return to the pier and head back to your hotel for breakfast. Afterwards, visit Can Tho’s Central Market, where locals shop for fresh produce, spices, and traditional delicacies. It’s a great opportunity to observe daily life and perhaps pick up a few Mekong treats.
Later in the morning, begin the overland journey to Chau Doc, a riverside town near the Cambodian border known for its diverse cultures and rich river traditions. On arrival, visit the Lady Chua Xu Temple, a sacred site revered by many Southern Vietnamese for its spiritual powers and believed ability to bring luck and health.
Continue to explore the town’s unique life on the water with a boat trip to visit floating fish farms, where local families raise thousands of fish in cages beneath their floating homes. Then, visit a Cham minority village, home to a community of Muslim Cham people. Learn about their history, traditions, and admire the intricate hand-woven textiles still made on traditional looms.
Check in to your hotel and enjoy the evening at leisure in this peaceful border town.
