Under the theme “Bringing traditional silk to modern life”, the Viet Nam-Asia Silk Festival 2016 will be held in Hoi An city (Quang Nam province) on 28 and 29 March, 2015 by Hoi An Silk Village - one of the founders of the Asia Silk Alliance and of the International Silk Union.

It’s also a major cultural highlight of the myriad of events celebrating the 41st anniversary of this world cultural heritage city.

Coming to the festival, tourists can enjoy many interesting activities such as the thurification for Quang land’s Queen of Silk, introducing and performing traditional worm silk weaving techniques of the Tan Chau silk craft village, the Cham traditional patterns for wedding, the Catu traditional brocade weaving, the natural worm silk of Bac Giang province; introducing some modern silk products from 7 typical Vietnamese silk craft villages; Vietnamese traditional cuisine “Countryside Soul”…

Besides, artisans, fashion designers and silk businesses from Viet Nam, Thailand, India, Japan and China will exchange silk making experiences at a seminar themed “Silk in modern life”. An exhibition of silk products of the ASEAN countries will also be held in the festival.

The Hoi An Culture and Sports Centre has issued a notice, suspending all tour guide activities during the Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday.

All cultural and art activities on the streets, selling of tickets, tour guide services for the ancient city's "Night Street" project, and the operation of non-motorised transport streets and pedestrianised streets will be suspended from February 13 to 21, the notice says.

To attract tourists to the ancient city, Hoi An has decided to offer free tickets from February 18 to 21.

Travel agencies that want to organise tours at the Hoi An Ancient City and the pottery village of Thanh Ha should contact the tourist information office of Hoi An Ancient City at 78, Le Loi Street, Hoi An, or call 01243428888 for guidance.

The 1st Hoi An – Korea Handicraft and Fine Arts exchange 2014 will take place at Hoi An Sculpture Garden, Hoi An city from December 2-4.

Co-organized by Hoi An city and Gwangju city, Korea on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the UNESCO-World cultural heritage of Hội An Ancient Town (04/12/1999-2014).

The event aims to build up the friendly relationship as well as the cooperation on culture – art, fine arts and crafts between Hoi An city and Gwangju city, Korea. It will also help to promote the traditional handicraft of the two cities to all the visitors.

There will be various activities such as craft products display (lanterns, Thanh Ha potteries, Kim Bong furnitures, sycamore hammocks, Quang Nam silk  and products made from bamboo or coconut leaves,..)  and craft presentation.

The craftmen from Gwangju, Korea will bring here their traditional crafts such as weaving, papermaking, bamboo art.. Along with it, the traditional art  performance will be held every evening during the event by Hội An city. Meanwhile, the photo exhibition will take place at the same venue.

On the occasion, Hoi An city in cooperation with the International Labor Organization (ILO)  and Korean craftmen will hold a talk “The development of handicraft and fine arts in Hoi An and Gwangju” taking place at 14:00 on Dec 2nd, 2014.

This program will contribute to the introduction and promotion of cultural professions and traditional handicraft products in Hoi An and Gwangji cities to domestic and foreign tourists.

Hoi An City People’s Committee (Quang Nam Province) has approved a plan to provide 2,000 more rooms for visitors, including hotel rooms, villas and homestay clusters by 2020 to meet the increasing demand of visitors.

Hoi An had 203 accommodations with a total of 4,967 rooms as of June 30, including 1,898 at four-star and five-star standards, and 956 three-star rooms. Thousands of rooms are being built, increasing the number of rooms in the city to 6,393 in 2015.

The city is expected to provide 8,046 rooms to serve more than three millions tourists per year by 2020.

The Hoi An People’s Commitee encourages the development of villas, garden houses and homestays to preserve the nature and landscapes of villages and allows the building of hotels meeting two-star and three-star standards with under 50 rooms.

The city will also establish Cua Dai tourism clusters in Cam Thanh, Cam An, Cam Chau and Cam Pho wards.

The increase of rooms contributes to developing more competitive establishments, which will promote the development of the city’s commercial services and tourism.
